Cooking can be fun, but sometimes it gets overwhelming or feels tedious. Plan to make recipes that are realistic for the time and energy you have. If it helps, cook a meal for family or friends to help motivate you. Like anything, cooking is not perfect. It is okay if your meal does not come out as planned. The process is what is important because it can be healing to cook.

Have FUn

Cooking is self-care, so treat yourself by making a special recipe. Whatever your heart desires is what you should cook. Food is healing to our bodies. Not only do we need food to survive and to give us energy, food can heal our bodies from sickness and ailments. Cooking is self-care because it encourages us to make better food choices which help our bodies and minds.

Treat Yourself

Preparation in the kitchen is key. Portion out your ingredients ahead of time, so when you start cooking it is easy to add them to your recipe. If you are using a recipe make sure you read it before starting. Check to see if any appliances have to be turned on like an oven or instant pot. Preparing in the kitchen helps to make sure the cooking experience is easy and enjoyable.

Prepare

The senses are great to help with grounding. Cooking is all about the senses, but there is ways to increase the benefits. One way is to put on music when you are cooking. Another is to be mindful about how the food feels, smells, and looks. You can experience the process of cooking through all five senses to help reduce anxiety, and it helps you to appreciate the act of cooking.

Add Sensory aspects to cooking

When you enter your kitchen, and you do not know what to make, it becomes quite hectic. Creating a meal plan for the day or week is helpful. Another helpful tip is if you do not want to make a meal plan instead visualize what you have in the kitchen before you cook.

Create a plan for the kitchen

A cluttered kitchen will add to feelings of not wanting to cook. It will make it difficult to cook too! Take some time, even if its 5 minutes, to tidy up your kitchen. Even if you do not cook, you will feel better about the accomplishment of cleaning up.
